Professional Development
My teaching increasingly focuses on how health and behaviour unfold within wider systems. These programmes are designed for experienced clinicians who wish to examine practice beyond technique and explore the structural influences shaping outcomes.
Health Within Systems
Rethinking Behaviour Change in Clinical Practice
Behaviour change is central to clinical care. Yet despite increasing knowledge, familiar patterns persist. Patients often understand what to do, clinicians often know what to recommend, and still outcomes can stall.
This live, interactive masterclass explores health within systems. It examines how behaviour is shaped by food environments, cultural norms, clinical time pressures, institutional incentives, and the way healthcare is organised and measured. Rather than focusing only on technique, it offers a wider lens, a framework for understanding why change can be difficult, even when intentions are good.
Designed for experienced professionals, this is not a skills workshop. It is a reframing of the context in which clinical skills operate.
What we explore
Why behaviour change efforts stall, even when knowledge improves
Prevention inside treatment-oriented systems, and what that does to practice
The influence of food environments, commercial pressures, and cultural norms
How time, targets, and metrics shape what feels possible in clinic
How assumptions about “progress” influence education and policy
Practical shifts in conversation, expectation, and clinical framing
Who this is for
Dental hygienists, dental therapists, dentists
Oral health educators, clinical leads, practice owners
Professionals interested in behaviour change, prevention, and long-term context
Conference organisers seeking a cross-disciplinary perspective grounded in practice
Format
Delivered live and discussion-led, with case examples, reflection, and structured dialogue. Sessions are intentionally kept small to support interaction.
Options include:
2 to 3 hour masterclass
Half-day workshop
Full-day professional development session for teams or invited groups
Pilot cohort
I am currently arranging a small pilot session for a limited group of experienced colleagues. If you would like to be included, or if you would like to host a pilot in your organisation, please register your interest below.

Feedback from previous participants
“I recently completed a training on breathing and oral myology, and I wanted to share my feedback. Tim was incredibly engaging throughout the course, making the content both informative and interactive. I really appreciated how we were encouraged to do breathing exercises and check in with ourselves to become more aware of how we breathe. I learned a lot of new and valuable information, and the training has inspired me to explore the topic further. Thank you for such an enriching experience.”
Sylwia Bartoszuk, RDH, October 2025
“It was really interesting learning a completely different topic. I loved your teaching style and being part of a small friendly group that allowed for everyone to contribute.”
Greta Compton
“Very relaxed learning environment with plenty of opportunities for interaction.”
Sally Simpson
“The course was relevant on both a personal and a professional level. A rare find, I was gripped from start to finish and it was brilliantly delivered by Tim and the small group made for a really relaxed environment.”
